Why would I need Dv TDM if I have SharePoint?

SharePoint is a collaboration tool many companies use as a central location for employees to retrieve information. However, SharePoint has limited abilities to manage at a document level. Administrators do not have the ability to control the directory location of the SharePoint document library which limits the effectiveness of managing CAD files with xRefs. You may use SharePoint to search documents and files and control the access to all documents or just CAD documents via Dv TDM. Users also prefer our traditional folder directory access similar to Windows Explorer.

What is Microsoft SharePoint?
Windows SharePoint Services is the engine for creating websites that enable information sharing and document collaboration that increases individual and team productivity. It is a key piece of the Information Worker Infrastructure delivered in Windows Server 2003 and provides additional team services and sites to Microsoft Office and other desktop applications, as well as serving as a platform for application development.

Why Integrate Dv TDM and SharePoint?
Dv TDM provides advanced document management features necessary for handling complex documents. Such documents may include engineering CAD files with xRefs or documents which undergo multiple revisions between users in multiple physical locations. Dv TDM also provides for the viewing, markup, conversion, plotting and managed distribution of these files which cannot be emulated with SharePoint. Simple Project Collaboration: Every project created in Dv TDM will generate a new project specific portal in SharePoint. The portal will provide a place for messaging and calendaring where team members can collaborate and keep up to date on project related information and important deadlines. Companies may begin with this simple integration solution and evolve into something more elaborate.

Full Integration: Companies who already use SharePoint or want to take full advantage of the enterprise solution can tightly integrate the two packages. Dv TDM can be inserted into SharePoint in which case the user can access all of the features of both applications from one interface. Searches, email, workflow, and collaboration will combine the power of both applications in the most efficient manner possible.

Transmittals and Distribution: Dv TDM users can currently manage the distribution of transmittals to their outside vendors/clients/contractors via the transmittal engine. SharePoint provides the ability to also post those documents in a client/transmittal specific website outside of the company firewall where the team members can track the progress of those files and collaborate with the customer. The transmittal site provides for easy communication and notification of important actions including new messages, changed documents, etc. The project team can easily monitor the documents for activity, respond to questions, and know exactly when the documents need to be removed or updated in Dv TDM.
